Not 100% sure where to post this, so I'll try the mesmer forum. I really am keen on making a mesmer, I like how they work and how annoying they can be. Trouble is, I play in New Zealand. Pings can be from 200-400 in PvE and around 400-500 in PvP like HA. I'm wondering if it's seriously worth bothering to make If I have pings like that. I'm not sure how much delay that actually gives me, but is it possible to still interpt well with pings like that? Cheers.

I myself just started playing mesmer and my pins are usually around the same. For the most part its not too bad but sometimes there are key interupts you need to get on 3/4 cast spells that you think you hit but don't cause of the lag (WoH for ex).

The most important part of playing a mesmer is to understand opposing skill bars so you
1. Know what skill to interupt/divert
2. Are able to predict their casting patterns (doesn't work as well on better players)

Best way to find out is to make a PvP only mesmer and run a couple different bars to see how your ping affects your play.

With a ping of 500 you'll only be able to interrupt skills with greater than about 1.5 second cast time, so I'd not go for an interrupt mesmer if I were you. It's annoying to see the cast begin, hit the interrupt, watch the cast complete, and the interrupt wasted - and you'll be seeing that a lot.

Of course, mesmers can do a lot of annoying stuff besides interrupting, and you *will* be able to reliably interrupt 2 second or longer casts (e.g. many necro and elementalist spells). But you'll be hard pressed to shut down any monks.

Well high end stuff kinda relies on Mesmers interupting and such.... Sigh guess I won't be making one if I can't really do it effectively. Kinda sucks that theres no servers near Aussie or something that can speed up our pings.

I think that there is a Me/El build that relies on water magic, and I've seen it in PvP from time to time. You might want to look at that.

Yeah theres fast casting water and stuff but why would people choose me as a Mesmer over someone with like 100 ping? Hmmm I might just practice In RA a bit and see how fast I can interupt.

Well my ping is about the same 300 to 500 tops,but i do interrupt 3/4 spells even tho i miss a few(c'mon im not perfect),u just need to practice.worked for me at least

Try doing it as PD on RA or HA.

Betrayers right, a lot of it is pratice, u can make a fairly decent interrupt with your ping. 1/2 of interrupting is reaction rate a ping the other 1/2 is predicting when that player is gonna use a certain skill, battle awareness is as important as ping, war below 1/2 health you can pretty much predict that the monk will use WoH, get in there fast and you've interrupted it. Its a nice way to interrupt sins too :P Though if you just wanna slow things down just bring Migraine and frustration = easy interrupt

welll i live in indonesia n the ping here is pretty bad got disconnected all d time but that doesnt stop me being a mes. i mean interrupting also rely on ur skill so dont worry, u'll get use to interrupting as long as u practice. the fun thing about a mesmer is that if u cant interrupt you can always counteract them (e.g backfire works pretty well, like Seri said frustration and migraine helps a lot and other skills)
